What is A2P 10DLC?
A2P 10DLC, also known as Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code, is the new standard text messaging framework for communication between businesses and their customers. A2P 10DLC is required by carriers, known as Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), and is designed to improve the reliability and trustworthiness of application-to-person communications.
A2P 10DLC allows businesses to utilize standard 10-digit phone numbers to send application-initiated messages. This means that businesses can use their existing phone numbers or acquire dedicated 10-digit long codes specifically for A2P messaging.
However, it's important to note that the A2P 10DLC regulation involves a required registration process and has associated costs. Businesses must register a business profile, which includes information such as company name, industry, and intended use cases for messaging. This registration helps establish accountability and prevent abuse of the messaging system.

Practice by Numbers has gone to great lengths to ensure its customers can meet A2P 10DLC requirements as easily and painlessly as possible. The required registration information is collected for new customers as part of your onboarding and submitted for approval. Existing customers who are either not registered or have changed business ownership can update their registration information in the Practice by Numbers platform, which will then be submitted automatically.
Furthermore, Practice by Numbers has configured its registration process to provide customers with the highest message limits and throughput available. This ensures that messages sent by Practice by Numbers customers receive the fastest and most reliable delivery.
What do I need to do?
New customers will be required to provide the registration information required by the MNOs during their onboarding process which is then submitted for registration automatically.
Existing customers can visit our A2P page in settings to add or update their registration information. Just so you know, updating registration information, such as in the event of an ownership change, may result in a fee due to the need to re-verify the business.
What if I don’t register?
Customers who fail to register can be negatively impacted in several ways, including:
- Message delivery issues
- Impact to brand reputation and trust
- Additional costs levied by MNOs for non-compliance
- Limitations on message throughput
What are the costs and fees for A2P 10DLC?
Application-to-Person (A2P) 10DLC services in the United States involve various costs and fees. Practice by Numbers has streamlined these fees for better comprehension. It's important to remember that these fees are set by Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in the U.S. and are subject to change. Please note that these costs are specific to U.S.-based locations only; other countries do not have this A2P process for SMS number registration by their in-country carriers.
Consolidated Fees Overview (US-based locations only)
1. Initial Registration Fees (Low Volume Mix) per location
- For locations sending below 500 custom bulk messages or campaign messages per day per location:
- A2P Brand Registration Fee: $5 (one-time)
- A2P Campaign Use Case Registration Fee: $15 (one-time)
- Total Initial Brand+ Campaign Use Case Registration Fees: $20 per brand/location
2. High Volume Registration (For More Than 500 custom bulk messages or campaign Messages Per Day)
- Total of $60 per location (one-time), which includes:
- $20 standard fee
- $40 for secondary vetting
3. Transition from Low to High Volume
- Additional $40 per location for secondary vetting (one-time)
- The initial standard registration fee of $20 is not required again.
4. A2P Recurring Monthly Campaign Fee
- Fee: $10/month
- Details: Campaigns require this monthly fee to stay active and comply with A2P 10DLC regulations.
- Note: This cost has been covered for established Practice by Numbers customers
until October 2023. Starting November 2023, all customers are required to cover this fee.
